MAT SCHWARTZ
“All advocacy is, at its core,
an exercise in empathy.”
- Samantha Power
In order to advocate for someone, you need to know something about them.
Mat Schwartz put this belief into practice early on, working with diverse clientele through the Boys & Girls Clubs of Winnipeg, Macdonald Youth Services, and assisting Residential School Survivors. Through these experiences he first found a home for his advocacy, speaking for those who were either prevented, or unable, to speak for themselves.
It was this pursuit that brought Mr. Schwartz to the University of Manitoba for his Juris Doctor in Law. During his time there, he received multiple awards for demonstrated advocacy, including the Honorable Archibald S. Dewar Prize and the D’Arcy McCaffrey Q.C. Memorial Award – annual awards given to the student with the highest standing in the school’s advocacy courses.
Since that time, Mr. Schwartz has practiced exclusively in the area of Criminal Defence. He has represented clients in Winnipeg, and across the Province, at all levels of court in Manitoba.
